About the Association

Who we are, why we exist, and how we are organised.

The Igbo Gospel Music Ministers Association (IGMMA) is a professional body for Igbo gospel music ministers in Nigeria and across the diaspora.

We exist for the people who carry gospel music: psalmists, worship leaders, choir directors, choristers, instrumentalists, songwriters, recording artists, producers, sound engineers, media teams and music teachers. Every one of those is a full member on the same footing. This is not an association of singers with everyone else attached — the record does not happen without the engineer, and the association is built to say so.

What we do

  • Fellowship. A body of peers who do what you do, with chapter meetings and a private members' community.
  • Collaboration. A searchable register, so members can find each other by skill and by place.
  • Training. Workshops and clinics on musicianship, recording, rights and stagecraft.
  • Standards and advocacy. A common standard of practice, and one voice when members need representing.
  • Welfare. Practical support when a member is ill, bereaved or out of work.

How we are organised

The association is organised in chapters. Inside Nigeria a chapter covers a state; outside it, a country. Every member belongs to one, and each chapter is led by a coordinator who is the first person to speak to where you are.

Above the chapters sits the National Executive Council, elected by the members and accountable to them. The council is listed in full on the Leadership page.

Membership

Membership is applied for, not simply signed up to. An application goes to the membership committee, who check it with the relevant chapter coordinator before it is approved. Approved members are issued a membership number and appear on the public register if they choose to be listed.

That review step is deliberate. It is what makes membership of this association mean something to the people who hold it — and it is why a member can be taken at their word.
